Comunicato Genoa in Inglese (English)
A new football season will begin tomorrow in Italy. The 2006/07 Campionato di Calcio will kick off in the afternoon, and the oldest team in the country, Genoa Cricket and Football Club S.p.A., having paid a heavy penalisation, is ready to face the challenge with renewed motivation and genuine fair play.
In this moment we think is necessary that all parties involved in the sport will commit themselves, as we do, to the obedience of rules, to fair play and loyalty, in the name of the beautiful game.
It is a commitment that we vow, the players, the managers and all the people involved, not only to our supporters but to all enthusiasts of this exciting and wonderful sport. With pride we are aware of playing an important role in the game, having contributed in the past 113 years to the growth and diffusion and importance of Italian football in the world. We enjoy the unrivalled support of hundreds of thousands “genoani nel mondo” (Genoa fans in the world) that we are convinced share these values with us.
But this is also our chance to reflect on the recent season of “sport trials”, without asking any favour or hiding any interest, but to contribute on the debate about the renewal of football in Italy. We are not after a compensation, either rightly or wrongly in the past Genoa CFC has been punished and now that it has paid its debt in full its destiny lies entirely on the results that will come from the pitch. But we wish to break the silence around the unfair disparity between the 2005 Genoa judicial case and the 2006 series of judicial cases, silence that only a few independent commentators are brave enough to break. After just one year the behaviour of institutions, media and many official representatives resulted incomparably different. The following is then just a summary of the most important facts, as they occurred just 12 months after one another.
2005 Genoa case
Genoa judicial court releases collected evidence to the investigation office of the Italian Football Association (FIGC) in just a few days (match Genoa-Venezia:11 June 2005; release of evidence:23 June 2005).
2006 football scandal
Turin and Naples judicial courts release collected evidence to the FIGC months after their acquisition, and long after the end of the football season.
2005 Genoa case
Genoa judicial court transmits collected evidence directly to the investigation office of the FIGC, in the hands of its headmaster, Gen. Pappa.
2006 football scandal
Turin and Naples judicial courts transmit collected evidence respectively to the president and commissioner of the FIGC (this clearly makes the entire process even longer).
2005 Genoa case
The investigation office of the FIGC, under directions of its headmaster Gen. Pappa, immediately starts and in just a few days finishes its own investigations.
2006 football scandal
The investigation office of the FIGC, under directions of its headmaster Gen. Pappa, after receiving the Turin judicial court's collected evidence from the president of the FIGC, will take six months before producing any report.
2005 Genoa case
Ten judges are present at the trial in front of the Italian Football Association's court (CAF), but only five will constitute the assembly that will sentence over the case, all this without the trialled party knowledge or approval.
2006 football scandal
The composition of the assembly that will sentence over the case has been publicly announced to the press on 22 June 2006.
2005 Genoa case
The sentence doesn't take into any account the history of Genoa Cricket and Football Club, the oldest club in Italy and one of the most prestigious, nine times Italian champions and once Coppa Italia winners.
2006 football scandal
The history of Juventus is, according to the Italian Football Association's court, element of penalty mitigation.
2005 Genoa case
When Genoa CFC asks for the mediation of the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI), the Italian Football Association, under the guidance of the then president Dott. Carraro, refuses it deeming it inadmissible.
2006 football scandal
FIGC and CONI advise all teams involved in the scandal to ask for the mediation of the Italian Olympic Committee.

Nato a Monticiano (Siena) nel 1948, Carlo Petrini è stato uno dei più noti calciatori degli anni Settanta. Dalle giovanili del Genoa, passò al Lecce (serie C, 1965-66), tornò al Genoa (serie B, 1966-68), quindi cominciò l’avventura professionistica ai vertici del calcio italiano come centravanti: al Milan di Nereo Rocco (1968-69), al 
Torino (1969-70), al Varese (1971-72), al Catanzaro (1972-74), alla Ternana (1974-75), alla Roma di Nils Liedholm (1975-76), al Verona (1976-77), al Cesena (1977-79), e approdò infine al Bologna (1979-80). Nella primavera del 1980 risultò coinvolto nello scandalo del calcio-scommesse: a Petrini venne inflitta una pesante squalifica che in pratica mise fine alla sua carriera. In questa autobiografia, sincera fino a essere spietata, Petrini racconta quello che «nel calcio si fa ma non si deve dire». Tutte le miserie che ha conosciuto e vissuto in prima persona – come protagonista, o come testimone – all'interno di un mondo dorato ma permeato di ipocrisia: i pareggi “concordati” e le partite “vendute”, il doping e l’espediente per eludere i controlli, i soldi “in nero” e le sfrenatezze sessuali. Non manca il racconto di alcuni retroscena inediti dell’epocale scandalo del calcio-scommesse. Una coraggiosa auto-confessione nella quale Carlo Petrini ripercorre inoltre le sue peripezie extra-calcistiche successive: le amicizie “pericolose” e un crac finanziario, la fuga all'estero e i lunghi anni di solitudine e di paura, l'indigenza e le malattie, fino alla drammatica morte di un figlio diciannovenne.
