Genoa leave Cagliari at sea
Genoa defeated Cagliari 2-0 at the Marassi stadium on Game Day 7 for their third consecutive win.
The home side dominated the first-half but failed to breach the visitor's defence despite all their fluid attacking play.
After the interval, Genoa continued to push forward in waves and deservedly took the lead on the hour-mark.
A cross from the right by winger Julio Leon was controlled on the chest by striker Marco Borriello, who then spun on the edge of the penalty box before unleashing an unstoppable volley into the bottom corner.
The Grifoni added a second 15 minutes later. A run from full-back Adboulay Konko split the Cagliari rearguard and the defender's pass found substitute Marco Di Vaio free in the penalty area for the 31-year-old striker to drill a shot across goalkeeper Marco Fortin.
A standing ovation greeted the final whistle as Genoa, unbeaten since Game Day 1, climb up to fifth place in the table.
